What is Web 2.0....

Even people in our industry have trouble answering this question.

Here are some external sources of information to help (or further confuse) you.

Wikipedia will help you with all these technical terms if you wish to understand them.The one we subscribe to is "a term coined by O’Reilly Media in 2004 to describe a second generation of the web. This describes more user participation, social interaction and collaboration with the use of blogs, wikis, social networking and folksonomies".

...and why is it important to my company?

The short answer is improvements in these areas of your business;

  • Customer service levels
  • Public perception management
  • Customer feedback
  • New product marketing
  • Communicating directly with your buyers

They are implemented using many of the technical features covered in the articles linked to above.

The really great news is that these technologies are mostly either low cost additions to your existing website or free technology that you can deploy even if you do not have a website.

The down side? Oh yes - there is one, and it is the one that dogs people with their websites. They all need content and your time!

For further information on this subject we recommend David Meerman Scott's website and book (which we supply to our eCommerce clients).

WSI can work with you to implement the recommendations you will uncover from this source.
